The Kolkata Knight Riders put up a fine all-round display at the Eden Gardens to beat Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets, strengthening their chances at the play-offs in IPL 2018.

The Knight Riders came back from being bulldozed by Jos Buttler (39) and Rahul Tripathi (27) in the powerplay to restrict them for a below-par 142 in 19 overs.

Chasing the total, Kolkata looked comfortable all throughout and reached their target in 18 overs, owing to a 48-run partnership between Lynn (45) and Karthik (41).

This crucial victory provides KKR a major boost as they continue to remain at the third spot on the points table.

Earlier, KKR looked down and out in the first 6 overs during the Rajasthan innings as Buttler took Shivam Mavi to the cleaners smashing him for 28 runs in the 3rd over. Along with Tripathi, Buttler hit 10 consecutive boundaries, three sixes and seven fours, as the Royals looked to post a huge total on the board. The pair brought up their 50-run stand in 20 balls.

Kolkata made a royal comeback riding on young chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav’s magical spell. Yadav ended up picking four crucial wickets for 20 runs in his four over, with a wicket in each of them.

From 68/1 at the end of the powerplay, Rajasthan lost regular wickets to finish at 142 in 19 overs.

Kolkata always looked comfortable while chasing the target. Narine got them off to a great start, scoring a whirlwind 21 off 7 deliveries.

Ben Stokes bowled a fabulous wicket maiden to dismiss Narine, but that was it.

From there a relatively quite Lynn played a mature innings of 45 from 41 with Dinesh Karthik, who hit a huge six over long on to finish the game ensured that KKR are well on their way to the play-offs.
