One day after David Warner and Steve Smith were banned for 12 months for their role in the ball-tampering scandal, Sunrisers Hyderabad has announced that New Zealand’s Kane Williamson will be the team’s captain for this season.
Following Cricket Australia’s sanctions on the two players, IPL Chief Rajeev Shukla also announced that both will not be allowed to feature in the league this season.
The team made the announcement on their Twitter handle saying, “We are happy to announce Kane Williamson as the captain of SunRisers Hyderabad for IPL 2018.”
On his appointment, Williamson said, “I’ve accepted the role to stand in as captain for this season. It’s an exciting opportunity with a talented group of players. I look forward to the challenges ahead.”
