After Indian shuttler PV Sindhu clinched a much-awaited historic gold medal at the BWF World Championships, it was cricketer Ajinkya Rahane’s turn to achieve what had been eluding him for a while as well – a century.

The Indian batsman notched up his first ton in over two years as India set West Indies a massive 419-run target to win the series-opener, in Antigua on Sunday, 25 August.

It was Rahane's first hundred in international cricket since his 132 against Sri Lanka in a Test in August 2017. Rahane (102) and Vihari (93) raised a 135-run partnership for the fifth wicket as India declared their second innings at 343 for seven with an overall lead of 418.

Here’s a look at some interesting trivia and numbers from Day 4 of the India vs West Indies Antigua Test.

  1. Ajinkya Rahane (81 & 102) has posted fifty-plus scores in both the innings in a Test match for the fourth time – the previous three instances being 51 not out + 96 vs South Africa at Durban in December 2013; 54 & 52 not out vs England at Southampton in July 2014 and 127 & 100 not out vs South Africa at Delhi in December 2015.
  2. Rahane's second century vs West Indies is his 10th in Tests. His magnificent 102 is his seventh in Tests away from home.
  3. Seven out of Rahane’s 10 hundreds have been recorded under Virat Kohli's captaincy.
  4. As number five batsman, Rahane has registered seven hundreds in 75 innings.
  5. Hanuma Vihari's splendid 93 is his career-best score in Tests, obliterating the 56 vs England at The Oval in September 2018.
  6. Rahane and Vihari were involved in a stand of 135 – India's second highest fifth-wicket partnership vs West Indies at North Sound behind the 168 between Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin in 2016.
  7. Roston Chase's match figures of 6 for 190 are his best in a Test match against India – his second best in Tests next only to the 8 for 60 vs England at Bridgetown in January 2019.
