Veteran Indian opener Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday came out in support of his national and state teammate Virat Kohli. He said that Kohli would not skip an international match for any other tournament.

Earlier, former Australian cricketer Brad Hodge had questioned Kohli’s ethics and said that Indian captain is more keen on playing in the IPL rather than playing and winning the Test series against Australia.

“That’s absolutely not valid. I feel that someone who’s playing for their country and captaining it would never want to miss a Test match and would definitely want to play for India more than any other tournament. That’s always been the case,” Gambhir told CNN.

“Knowing Virat he would have never done that and these people, look if you want to be in the headline you can say anything you want and it’s just about making a headline or trying to get your name in the press by making such statements. If you don’t know the extent of the injury you should not be talking about it.”, he added.’

Kohli had performed consistently in four consecutive series but wasn’t able to score big against Australia. He was also a part of the DRS controversy involving Austraian captain Steve Smith.
