Anil Kumble’s statement confirming his resignation from the post of India’s head coach has put the spotlight on the "sources" and "officials who chose not to be named," who have been quoted in numerous reports that chronicled the alleged Kumble-Kohli rift. It is time for these “sources” to reveal dressing room secrets and tell their part of the story.

Soon after the BCCI sent an official press release about Kumble’s decision to step down as India’s head coach, the former Indian cricketer revealed that captain Virat Kohli had in fact been the reason behind his decision.

While the Kumble-Kohli rift had been ongoing through the Champions Trophy, India’s 180-run defeat to Pakistan in the final on 18 June, hurried the process of his departure, reported Times of India.

According to the report, Kumble was unhappy with the team’s bowling performance and gave the cricketers a piece of his mind. He allegedly said they were no match for former legends of the sport.

Both (Kumble and Virat) have their views in terms of roles and responsibilities and they weren’t always on a common page. After recent interactions, Kumble has realised that this issue won’t be sorted out. Obviously, we aren’t going to get rid of the captain. So, it’s he who has to step down.
