The Baramulla seat in Kashmir defied terror and recorded a decent 35.01 percent voter turnout.
The Baramulla Lok Sabha seat in North Kashmir defied terror and recorded a decent 35.01 percent voter turnout on Thursday, 11 April.
A large number of people turned out to cast their ballots in Baramulla, where long queues of voters were spotted casting their votes early in the morning.
While Separatists Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for the boycott of polls, the electorate appeared to be unaffected.
The overall turnout in Jammu and Kashmir stood at around 55 percent, with the Jammu Lok Sabha constituency recording 72.19 per cent polling, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Shaliendra Kumar said.
In the Baramulla seat, Kupwara district registered the highest turnout of 47.7 percent, followed by Bandipora at 30.1 percent and Baramulla at 22.3 percent.
In Rajouri and Poonch border districts, people along the Line of Control came out in large numbers to exercise their franchise, the officials added.
