Where Do the World’s Refugees Come From?

From the most troubled, most violent parts of the world. These are the top ten origin countries of the world’s refugees.

  • Syria: 4.9 million
  • Afghanistan: 2.7 million
  • Somalia: 1.12 million
  • South Sudan: 7,78,700
  • Sudan: 6,28,800
  • Democratic Republic of Congo: 5,41,500
  • Central African Republic: 4,71,100
  • Myanmar: 4,51,800
  • Eritrea: 4,11,300
  • Colombia: 3,40,200

Where Do the World’s Refugees Go?

  • Turkey hosts 2.5 million refugees
  • Pakistan: 1.6 million
  • Lebanon: 1.1 million
  • Iran: 9,79,400
  • Ethiopia: 7,36,100
  • Jordan: 6,64,100
  • Kenya: 5,53,900
  • Uganda: 4,77,200
  • Democratic Republic of Congo: 3,83,100
  • Chad: 3,69,500

Just 10 countries host 58% of the world’s refugees. Half of these countries are located in Sub-Saharan Africa. Four of these – Ethiopia, Uganda, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo – are Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
