Video: Pageant Marks 200th Year of Gurkha Service in Royal Army
A pageant in London marked celebrations of the 200th anniversary of Gurkha’s service to the British Crown
Hundreds of Nepalese soldiers called ‘Gurkhas’ gathered in London to take part in a pageant marking their regiment’s 200 years of service to the British Crown.
Prince Charles, who is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Gurkha Rifles and Prince Harry - who lived with a Gurkha battalion in Afghanistan - also attended the event.
More than 200-thousand Gurkha soldiers served in the British Army in the two world wars - with 43-thousand losing their lives.
The performance, in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, was watched by the Queen and her husband Prince Philip.
The regiment has been awarded 13 Victoria Crosses between them during their 200 years of service.
