The US-Mexico relationship status post Donald Trump’s election as the US President last November has been ‘complicated’. Trump has been a recurring nightmare for the Mexicans mouthing words like “wall”, “immigrants’ deportation” ad nauseam.

Mexico’s Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray has been vocal about the “worry and irritation” of the Mexican nationals against the “harmful” policies. He even met with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson last month to hold dialogue on the same and was again in Washington to meet US government officials on Thursday.

However, his visit went unnoticed by the State Department who failed to mention any details about Videgaray’s meeting with Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner, National Security Advisor HR McMaster and others.

In a press briefing on Thursday, a Los Angeles Times reporter asked State Department spokesperson Mark Toner if the Department will be holding any discussions with Videgaray, to which Toner replied that he was “unaware that the foreign minister was in town”.

Videgaray, according to the report, had said that he had spoken to Tillerson and informed him that he will be coming to Washington and needs to speak directly with the White House. He also said that he and Tillerson had decided to meet in person in a few weeks.
