Altitude Air Chopper with 7 People Aboard Crashes in Nepal, 6 Dead
Six passengers, including a Japanese national, died in the crash while one female passenger has been rescued.
A helicopter with seven people on board crashed in central Nepal after being reported missing on Saturday, an official told AFP.
Speaking to ANI, Chief District Officer of Nuwakot District, Uddab Bahadur Thapa said, “Six passengers, including a Japanese national, died in the crash while one female passenger has been rescued.”
The chopper belonged to Altitude Air airline, according to IANS.
The Nepal Civil Aviation Authority said the missing chopper was spotted in a place called Satyawati inside a dense forest.
“The crash site lies at an altitude of 5,500 feet & rescue operation is being attempted, but adverse weather is hindering operation,” the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority statement said, as quoted by ANI.
The chopper was sent to Nepal’s Gorkha district to airlift a patient to the capital Kathmandu when it lost contact with the air traffic control tower at 8.05 a.m on 8 September, reported ANI.
Tribhuvan International Airport General Manager Rajkumar Chhetri said the helicopter had been scheduled to land in the capital at 8.18 am.
