The region of eastern Ghouta in Syria has been under a crippling siege and has been facing heavy bombardments for almost a month now. The airstrikes and bombings have claimed the lives of over 600 people. The siege has been deemed as “one of the most pitiless onslaughts in this long-running and brutal civil war” by the top United Nations human rights official Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein.

Defying the international community, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has declared that the military operations in the rebel-held enclave will continue.
