You Mean France? Twitter Jokes About Pak PM’s Germany-Japan Gaffe
Imran Khan seemingly confused Japan with France – and claimed that the former and Germany shared a border.
Many had a field day on Twitter at the cost of a gaffe made by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Addressing a joint press conference with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran, Khan implied that Germany and Japan shared a common border.
In a video shared by Pakistani journalist Syed Talat Hussain, Khan is heard as saying that the two countries set up joint industries at the border region to improve ties after the Second World War.
“On the border region of Germany and Japan, they had joint industries,” the Pakistan Prime Minister said.
‘How Embarassing’
Opposition leader Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of the Pakistan Peoples Party called Khan’s faux pas “embarrassing”.
While many trolled Khan for not knowing the history and geography of the world, a few corrected him that he was confusing Japan with France. After the Second World War, Germany and France had signed the Elysee Treaty of Friendship, leading to economic and military cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
This isn’s the first time that Khan has been trolled for mixing up geographical facts. In December last year, he referred to Africa as an “emerging country,” reported NDTV.
