A video showing a group of people attacking a car passing through a crowd near a bridge is being widely shared on social media, where users have claimed that it shows people demonstrating against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in poll-bound Bihar.
Users have added that after the recent anti-corruption protests in Nepal, which started in the first week of September 2025, Indians too have risen up against the government.
How do we know?: We carefully watched the video and noticed that the number plates on the two-wheelers in the video did not follow the typical numbering pattern often seen in Indian plates.
Instead of it reading 'BR XX XX XXXX', it followed a different format of 'B XXXX XX', indicating that the video might not be from India.
The number plates do not follow the standard Indian format.

We then ran a reverse image search on the video, which led us to a report by Indonesian media organisation Hai Jakarta, carrying screenshots of the same video.
We translated the report using Google translate.

Published on 25 August, two weeks before Nepal's protests, the report said that the video showed demonstrations outside the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat (DPR), or the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Protesters there damaged a luxury car using sticks and stones, suspecting that it belonged to an official. The incident took place on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Senayan, Central Jakarta.
Another video report by Tribun Jateng with the same clip said that the protesters were "angry with the House of Representatives' housing allowance policy," and had attacked the car, believing it to belong to an official.
It was badly damaged, leaving the passenger window broken and the female passenger inside afraid, it added.
We then looked for the street on Google Maps, and were able to confirm that the video was taken in Central Jakarta's Senayan area.
What caused the protests?: Amid economic and political frustration in Indonesia, peaceful protests began outside the DPR over controversial housing allowances for lawmakers in the country.
The allowance, amounting to 50 million rupiah (approximately 2.64 lakh rupees), is more than 10 times the country's average minimum wage.
During a clash between police and protesters, an armoured police vehicle ran over a rideshare motorbike driver identified as Affan Kurniawan, killing him, CNN reported.
Following Kurniawan's death, the protests turned increasingly violent and spread across the nation, leaving at least eight dead.
Conclusion: A video from Indonesia is being shared to falsely claim that it shows Biharis rising up against the BJP.
