After Indore was recognised as one of India’s cleanest cities in the Swachh Survekshan 2024-2025 awards, a video has emerged on social media showing a man spraying water from a tanker onto another man, who was reportedly caught urinating in a public area.
Those sharing this clip claimed that the video was from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, in India.
What we found: Initially, we searched to determine if any such incidents had occurred in Indore recently, but we found no reports to support the claim.
We, then, divided the video into multiple screenshots and performed a Google reverse image search on some of them.
It led us to multiple local media articles from March 2025, released by media outlets in Peru and Ecuador.
A Peruvian newspaper named La República published a story on 15 March, which included visuals similar to the viral video.
Here is a visual from the newspaper report.

The report noted that a man with a tanker reacted strongly when a pedestrian who was allegedly urinating on the road.
In Peru, public urination is not deemed a criminal act, but it is an infringement of public order. Under local regulations, this conduct may result in penalties that differ based on the city.
This act by the man who sprayed onto the pedestrian met with conflicting opinions, some of which supported the act and some opposed.
We found some other social media posts that noted an incident had occurred in Lima in March. They featured the same clip as the viral video. You can view some of them here and here.
Conclusion: A clip from Peru of a man urinating in public, being sprayed on to discourage his behaviour has gone viral as one from Indore.
