How did we find out the truth?: We ran a reverse image search on the video using Google Lens, which led us to a YouTube video uploaded on the verified channel of 'NewsTamil 24X7' on 18 February.
Its title and description mentioned that Vijay's political party, TVK's office was demolished and carried some visuals from the viral video.
Taking a cue from this, we ran a keyword search with the term 'TVK office demolished', for more context.
Several Tamil language news organisations had published reports about this demolition.
One such report by Maalai Malar mentioned that the TVK's Thiruvallur South District's Youth Wing office had been demolished by the Highways department, as it was enroaching on the highway near it in.
News organisations DTNext and OneIndia Tamil too published reports, saying that the party's youth wing office had been demolished as it caused traffic disruption on the Chennai-Tirupathi National Highway.
Did it happen after the iftar party?: No. Actor Vijay hosted an iftar party on 7 March, a week after Ramzan began on 1 March.
This video report by India Today shows visuals of the party.
The viral video of the building's demolition was shared nearly three weeks before Ramzan began.
Conclusion: A video of a TVK office being demolished has been falsely shared as people reacting to Vijay hosting an iftar party.
