A video which shows a huge explosion is being circulated on social media platforms with users claiming that the visuals are from Iran, where intensive bombardment was reported.
What did users say?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium user shared the clip with a caption that said, "Massive explosion in Ahvaz. Intensive bombardment reported across Iranian cities."
What are the facts?: The video could be traced back to April of this year and is unrelated to the recent Israel-Iran aggressions. It reportedly shows massive explosion taking place at the port of Shahid Rajaee in Iran.
How did we find that out?: On conducting a reverse image search using the help of Google Lens, we found a shorter version of the viral clip published on an X handle named 'OSINTdefender'.
It was uploaded on 26 April 2025 and its caption identified the location as Port of Bandar Abbas in Southern Iran.
The caption further said that the incident was caused by "an out-of-control fire coming in contact with a single and/or several chemicals being improperly stored by Iranian Port Authorities."
News reports: A report published in The Guardian said that a massive explosion took place at the port of Shahid Rajaee in southern Iran.
The incident resulted in the death of five people and left over 700 others wounded.
Conclusion: While we could not verify the context or location of the video, it is clear that the clip was old and unrelated to recent Israel-Iran conflict.
