A video showing Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif speaking in the country's parliament and talking about how Pakistan had been defeated in the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan is being widely shared on social media.
What does he say?: In the clip, he says that Pakistan has to retreat due to a shortage of resources, political isolation, and the enemy's strength, despite their armed forces fighting bravely.
"I have to regretfully say that apart from Turkey, no country is standing with us. Not the Arab world, not China, no powerful country. Everybody has ignored our pleas. My heart that if this situation continues, Pakistan might soon be captured by the enemy."
Sharif then allegedly goes on to stress on the dire situation, appealing to his fellow countrymen to sacrifice for their country as it is their last chance to save Pakistan as they know it.
How do we know?: We carried out a reverse image search using Google Lens on the video to identify the source of the visuals.
The search led us to two clips shared by Brut India and Hindustan Times, both of which were published on 7 May 2025.
In both videos, Sharif claimed that India had sent 80 fighter jets as a part of Operation Sindoor, of which five were shot down by Pakistan's armed forces, including Rafale jets.
None of the reports (links here and here) about Sharif's address in Pakistan's parliament mentioned anything about him accepting defeat.
Since there was no credible evidence to support the claim that he made these statements, we ran the video through AI-generated content detectors by Hive Moderation and Contrails.ai.
Hive Moderation's report said that the clip was "likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content," giving it a 99.9 percent overall score.
Hive Moderation's tool said that the video was likely a deepfake.

Conclusion: The viral video which shows Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif admitting defeat is a deepfake.
