But...?: The claim is false.

  • The visual dates back to 2011 and shows the bodies of suspected militants who were killed by the Indian Army in Kashmir.

How did we find out the truth?: We carried out a reverse image search which led us to a 2011 article by French media organisation Radio France Internationale, which carried a similar photo.

  • Published on 23 August 2011, the photo's caption said that it showed an Indian Army soldier standing next to the bodies of suspected Kashmiri seperatists, credited it to Getty Images.

The report was published in 2011.

  • Other news reports carrying this image included an article by Foreign Policy and a photo story by India Today.

  • We looked for this photo on Getty Images and found that they had shared the same photo as one of an Indian Army soldier standing next to bodies of suspected Kashmiri militants on 20 August 2011.

Conclusion: An almost 14-year-old visual is being shared by Pakistan-linked social media accounts with the false claim that it shows recent visuals of Indian Army casualties.
