Fact-Check: Unrelated Video Peddled as Mosque Being Demolished in Uttarakhand

A video which shows the demolition of white and green-coloured structures with tombs is being circulated on the internet to claim that it shows a mosque being demolished in Uttarakhand.

What have users said?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium user shared the video with a caption that loosely translated to, "A soothing video was received from the holy land of Uttarakhand."

What are the facts?: The visuals have no connection to Uttarakhand or any other states in India.

  • The incident is actually from Indonesia. It shows the demolition of a structure in Hibisc Fantasy Puncak in the West Java province.

How did we find that out?: We performed a simple reverse image search on the keyframes of the clip that directed us to the same visuals published on an unverified YouTube channel named 'Heru Bakmal'.

  • The video was live streamed on 7 March. Its title said, "AHIR CERITA WISATA Hibisc Fantasy Puncak."

  • It showed a similar white and green-coloured structure being demolished as seen in the viral clip.

News reports: A news report published by CNN Indonesia said that demolitions continued at the Hibisc Fantasy theme park in the West Java province in Indonesia.

  • The report said that the park was previously sealed for allegedly violating environmental regulations.

  • It further added that the demolition is supposed to be completed by 27 March, in accordance of the direction of West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi.

The report was published on 10 March.

  • It was posted on 8 March and its title said, "Dedi Mulyadi's Explanation of the Chaos of the Demolition of the Hibiscus Fantasy Tourism in Puncak Bogor."

The video was published on 8 March 2025.
