A video showing a teacher brutally beating a student has gone viral on social media as one from Uttar Pradesh, India.

  • Those sharing wrote, "These monsters charge exorbitant fees and abuse children to a great extent." Users tagged UP police and requested them to find the location of the video.

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false as this video is from Tunisia and dates back to November 2021.

What we found: We divided the video into multiple keyframes and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.

  • We came across a Facebook post from Knooz FM from 25 November 2021. It carried a similar frames as the viral video. Knooz FM is a radio station based in Sousse, Tunisia.

  • The post noted that the video showed a teacher violently assaulting a student in the classroom. The teacher who committed the assault was a substitute teacher and it was his first year teaching at the school, where he taught fifth-grade students.

  • It said that the lack of experience may have led him to this act and was suspended from work as a precaution.

  • We also found reports by Tunis Now and Jawhara FM from November 2021 also noted the ordeal as highlighted by Knooz FM.

Conclusion: A false claim has gone viral that the video showed a teacher beating a student at a school in UP, India.
