A video showing a dog attacking a child in a playground inside a residential society is going viral to claim that this incident happened recent in Kalyan, Maharashtra.

The video features two dogs who are running around while several people try to stop one of the dogs from biting a child’s leg.

What's the truth?: This video is not from Maharashtra but from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

How did we find out the truth?: We performed a reverse image search on some of the keyframes of the viral video using Google lens and this led us to various reports from November.

  • Reports shared by Onedio, Globo Sao Paulo, TVN Campobelo, Net Noticias and SBT News carried the same viral video or screen grabs from the video.

  • These reports specified that the incident happened in a playground located in Vila Guilherme, north of the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

  • It added that this occurred on 12 November, where an 11-year-old boy sustained serious injuries in his legs and was later hospitalised at the Vereador José Storopolli Municipal Hospital.

  • The owner of the two pit bulls, Marcos Sibioni, was indicted by the police for neglect of custody, animal cruelty and serious bodily harm.
