A video of philanthropist and Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murthy promoting an online investment platform is being shared on social media platforms. In the clip, a microphone of media outlet can also be seen.

Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false.

• The original footage was manipulated with synthetic audio to fabricate the video.

• The original clip was an interview of Murthy with CNBC-TV 18 which took place in 2023.

What we found: At first, we noticed some inconsistencies with the lip movement in the video which hinted that the video could be manipulated.

• Hence, we ran a search on artificial intelligence detection website, Hive Moderation and found that the audio in the clip was 99 percent generated using AI.

• The original video dated back to January 2023 which was an interview of Murthy with CNBC-TV 18. Her outfit matched with the one in the viral clip.

• The interview was not about financial investment but about Murthy's advice to the female workforce and women in business and leadership positions.

• The viral clip has been mirrored, hence, the microphone identity looks different.
