The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea seeks to stay the release of the film 'Padmavati'.

While dismissing the petition, the Supreme Court said that the Censor Board has not yet issued a certificate to the film, it is an independent body and therefore the apex court should not intervene in their jurisdiction.

Further ordering, the CBFC to take necessary steps, the court said it could not 'substitute the role' of the body.

The court also directed the petitioner to approach the Censor Board with the plea, stating that the film certification appellate tribunal could hear any related grievances.

The Allahabad High Court too earlier dismissed a plea that requested a stay on the film, on similar lines.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy said the film was an ‘international conspiracy to defame Hindus’, demanding an inquiry into the funding of the film.
