Shivraj Singh, Scindia Hold a Closed-Door Meeting in Bhopal

The two leaders have called the 40-minute long meeting at Chouhan’s residence a ‘courtesy call’.

Madhya Pradesh’s political corridors are abuzz with a sudden late-night closed-door meeting which took place between former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday night, 21 January, in Bhopal, reported News18.

The meeting lasted for about 40 minutes, post which the two leaders appeared before the media and termed it a “courtesy call”.

According to the news report, Scindia had visited the capital to pay respects to two family members of his close aides after which he visited Chouhan at his residence.

Speaking to the media, Scindia said, “Let bygones be bygones” and that everyone should work towards the betterment of the state.

Reiterating Scindia’s stand, Chouhan, too called it a ‘courtesy call’ as he came out to drop Scindia to his car.

Congress spokesperson Manak Agrawal told the channel that the meeting sent out a positive message that the ruling party and the Opposition can work together.

However, the meeting comes at a time when Chouhan has been raising questions about the situation of law and order in the state following the death of two BJP leaders.

Chouhan has also raised questions about the Kamal Nath-led Congress government’s decision of scrapping the Bhavantar Yojana, a scheme that was launched by Chouhan in 2017 after the Mandsaur farmer agitation.
