In a statement, Riteish Deshmukh has responded to Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s recent remark that the actor’s father and then Chief Minister of Maharashtra the late Vilasrao Deshmukh “was busy getting his son a film role” during the 26/11 terror attacks on Mumbai.

Riteish posted the statment on Twitter, claiming that his father “never spoke to a director or producer to cast me a film.” Riteish also said that Piyush has “every right to question a CM but it is wrong to accuse someone who is not here to defend himself.”

Take a look at Riteish’s complete statement below.

Piyush had made his remarks on Sunday 12 May while addressing a business community. He also called the UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh “cowards” for not responding to the 2008 attacks appropriately.

“I am from Mumbai. You might remember the 26/11 terror attack. The then Congress government was weak and could not do anything. The then chief minister (Vilasrao Deshmukh) had brought a film producer outside Oberoi Hotel while shooting and bombing was going on inside. CM was concerned about getting his child a film role.”
