Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij is back in the news, courting controversy. This time, it’s for comparing the Congress President to the deadly Nipah Virus, which has claimed several lives in Kerala.

In a tweet dated 26 May, Vij said:

Later speaking to ANI, Vij reiterated his statement, saying that any party that associated with the Congress “will be finished”.

"Rahul Gandhi is similar to Nipah Virus, whichever Party he comes in contact with, that Party will be finished. They (parties) are trying to come together (in alliance) but they will be finished off."

This is hardly the first time that Vij has targeted Gandhi. Earlier, he had said that Gandhi served guests at his house in the same plate he used to feed his dog.

A few days earlier, he had said that Bhagat Singh and Lala Lajpat Rai had made the 'supreme sacrifice' for India's freedom by laying down their lives, unlike Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, "who did not bear even a single stick."

Last year, he also said West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee "should jump into the sea" if she was not proud to have been born an Indian.

The Nipah virus has claimed 14 lives in Kerala's Kozhikode district as of Sunday.
