Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 81 investment projects at the ‘Rising UP, Powering New India’ event in Lucknow.
The projects are estimated to be worth over Rs 60,000 crore
Hitting back for the first time at critics who questioned his perceived friendly relations with corporates, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that unlike “some people” he was “not afraid of” publicly standing beside industrialists and business magnates because his intentions were “noble,” reports IANS.
Speaking at an investors summit in Lucknow, in the presence of businessmen like Gautam Adani and Kumar Mangalam Birla, he said that industrialists too contribute to nation building and it was not right to label them all as thieves but those who do wrong "will have to leave the country" or live in jail.
He also added the example of Mahatma Gandhi living in the Birla household and said that “if your intentions are noble, you won't be tainted no matter with whom you are standing.”
At the investors’ summit, PM Modi slams previous non-BJP governments for lack of development. He says they did not have will and their intentions were not clear. He also said reiterated that “we want to set up system where there is no space for discrimination & everyone is treated equally. Our promise is 'sabka saath, sabka vikas.”

He also said that apart from investment in other sectors, “we are also ready to play a crucial role in the social development of Uttar Pradesh.”
Gautam Adani, chairman and founder of the Adani group, spoke at the event and said that the company is ready to invest Rs 36,500 crore rupees Uttar Pradesh. He also said that the Adani group has put forth a proposal to create 1.9 lakh job opportunities in the state.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in ground-breaking ceremonies of several projects, the memorandums on which were inked in February during the 'UP Investors Summit'.
