Men in Green and Blue, Meet Kolkata’s ‘Half Police’

Started in 2012, Bengal’s Civic Police Force scheme has given hope to the unemployed youth, reports Chandan Nandy.

They form part of Bengal’s civic police force that helps the men in khaki in carrying out their day-to-day functions. The Quint’s Chandan Nandy caught up with Tapan Das in Kolkata, who is part of Bengal’s civic police force – volunteers with no substantive authority. It’s the unemployed youth across the state who’ve been lured into taking up jobs as civic police personnel, a ploy by the ruling TMC regime for consolidating its vote bank.
