Maoists Blow Up Ex-Bihar MLC’s House, Call for Poll Ban

Armed Maoists blew up a former Bihar Legislative Council member's house in Gaya using dynamite on Thursday, 28 March, news agency IANS reported.

During the attack on Anuj Kumar Singh's Bodhibigha residence, his family members were beaten up as well, a Hindustan Times report said.

"The house was badly damaged," Dharmendra Kumar, police official at Dumaria police station said. Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeev Mishra also confirmed the incident and said a search operation has been launched.

The attackers also of the outlawed CPI(Maoist) also threatened the villagers of consequences, if they failed to boycott the upcoming General elections, Hindustan Times reported. The Maoists also threw handbills and pamphlets during the raid.

The MLC, has reportedly been on the Maoists’ hit list since 2006 for his campaign against the ultra-left organisation. Maoists have earlier thrown bombs at his house in 2007 as well.
