Over 70 Arrested in Immigration Protest at Microsoft Store in US

New York, Sep 15 (AP) Dozens of immigration policy protesters have been arrested at a demonstration outside a Microsoft store in New York City.

Police say they took 76 people into custody Saturday who blocked traffic near the Fifth Avenue store in Manhattan.

The protesters criticized Microsoft for doing business with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Several Injured When Decks Collapse During Firefighter Event

Multiple levels of decking attached to a building collapsed on Saturday, 14 September evening at the Jersey Shore, trapping people and injuring several, including children, officials and witnesses said.

The collapse happened around 6 pm Saturday in Wildwood, New Jersey, during the annual New Jersey Firemen's Convention.

It was unclear how many people were on or under the decks at the time, but authorities said those who were trapped were quickly removed.Photos and video on social media showed firefighters trying to lift a piece of decking.

Images showed multiple levels of decking ripped away from the building and reduced to beams and splintered wood.

A 10-year-old elephant Chandan died in Nandankanan on Sunday, 15 September, allegedly due to Herpes virus infection. Its postmortem reports are awaited. The elephant was under treatment by veterinarians at Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar.

Owner Blows Up House on Daughter's Wedding Day in US

Police say they believe a homeowner blew up his house near Pittsburgh on his daughter's wedding day.

Authorities tell television station KDKA that the owner's body was recovered from the rubble late Saturday. Police say his death has been ruled a suicide.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the explosion. Police Chief Robert Payne tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that most of the family was out of the house for the wedding.

Neighbors had reported the homeowner was in his front yard shortly before the blast, but for several hours he couldn't be accounted for. Police say they had been to the home previously for domestic issues related to mental illness.

Man Died in Police Custody in Jamme

A 32-year-old suspected drug peddler died in police custody in Jammu shortly after his arrest, a police officer said on Sunday.

Ikhlaq Ahmad Khan, a resident of Kotli village in Rajouri, was arrested from Janipur area on Saturday and complained of uneasiness while he was being taken to Miran Sahib Police Station for questioning, the police said.

He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Several People Feared Drowned in Tourist Boat Capsize in Godavari

Several people were feared drowned when a tourist boat capsized in the swollen Godavari river in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday afternoon while over 10 passengers were said to have been rescued, police sources said.

Sources said there were about 60 people, including 11 crew members, in the boat run by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.

Two National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams of 30 members each, sent for rescue operations.

The boat started off for the picturesque Papikondalu, a prime tourist destination, from Gandi Pochamma Temple near Devipatnam and it capsized near Kachhuluru, the sources said.

Two passengers were killed and 20 others injured when a private bus on its way to Delhi's Anand Vihar rammed into a stationary truck on the Yamuna Expressway here in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

The bus, with 45 passengers on board, was coming from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh. The vehicle crashed into the truck near Bajna cut (close to the 65-kilometer stone) on the Yamuna expressway, Aditya Kumar Shukla, SP (Rural) said.

21 Indians Killed in 2,050 Ceasefire Violations by Pak This Year: Mea

The Pakistani Army has violated ceasefire more than 2,050 times this year without provocation in which 21 Indians have been killed, the Ministry of External Affairs said Sunday.

India has repeatedly conveyed to Pakistan to ask its forces to adhere to the 2003 ceasefire understanding, it said.

"We have highlighted our concerns at unprovoked ceasefire violations by Pakistan forces, including in support of cross-border terrorist infiltration, and targeting of Indian civilians and border posts by them," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.

7 Killed, 3 Injured in Colombia Plane Crash

At least seven people were killed and another three injured when a small plane crashed in southwestern Colombia on Sunday, a firefighter said.

“Nine people were on board the plane. Seven died, while two are seriously injured,” Juan Carlos Ganan, the commander of firefighters in the area, told AFP.
