1. Apollo to Decide If Doctors Will Reappear Before Jaya Probe Panel
The Justice A Arumughaswamy commission has summoned 10 doctors and a technician from Apollo Hospitals for re-examination by Sasikala’s counsel on 5 and 6 February. Meanwhile, the date to issue summons to Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has still not been finalised, an official at the commission told.
The commission has also rejected the demand by the counsel representing Apollo Hospitals to constitute a medical board. The hospital is yet to decide whether its doctors will appear before the commission.

2. Chennai Police Inspector Caught on Camera Taking Bribes from Motorists
A traffic police inspector has been suspended from the Chennai city police after a video that showed his collecting bribe from motorists went viral in social media on Monday. Interestingly, the suspended police inspector Ravichandran was the same police officer who in November hit the news after a CCTV video showed him pushing down a police constable from running motorbike on a busy road.
It was said that Ravichandran allegedly did that to detain his subordinate and implicate in a false case that he was drunk on duty since the latter had complained to a senior officer about him being denied leaves even to attend last rites of his mother.

3. ‘Talks Are On’: Amid Speculation, Panneerselvam Confirms Poll Tie-Up with BJP
AIADMK Coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam has confirmed ‘secret’ alliance talks between the ruling party in the state and other parties, including national parties. “Like-minded alliance parties, political parties, state and national parties have expressed desire to join with the AIADMK and form an alliance. Talks are on. It is a mega secret. Once that secret is revealed, you will be informed first,” he said.
In recent weeks, senior AIADMK leader and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai has been critical of an alliance with the BJP. He had dubbed the Union Budget an election manifesto of the BJP while other AIADMK leaders had largely welcomed it.

4. Chinna Thambi Won't Be Turned into Kumki: Tamil Nadu Government
Chinna Thambi, the wild elephant which returned to a human habitation after being sedated and transported to the Top Slip hills, would not be turned into a kumki, the state government informed the Madras High Court on Monday.
A PIL had challenged the alleged proposal of the forest department to turn the elephant into a kumki. Advocate General Vijay Narayan informed the bench that there is no such proposal. On the other hand, the department is taking necessary steps to send it back to the forest, he added. The elephant is presently said to be roaming in the Amaravathi forest area.

5. State’s FDI Inflow Drops by 21%
The amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) received by Tamil Nadu has fallen by over 21% in the April-September 2018 period, when compared to last year, according to data from Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade , Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
As per the data sourced from the Chennai Regional Office of the RBI, which covers Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the State received an inflow of ₹10,892 crore in April-September 2018, down from ₹13,898 crore received in the comparable period in the previous year.
