Kerala MLA Shows ‘Expired Grenade’ in Assembly, Alleges Police Raj
The former state home minister was carrying the grenade to demonstrate the alleged ‘police raj’ in the state.
Kerala MLA Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has set off a controversy by bringing an 'expired' grenade to the Kerala Assembly on Wednesday, 8 March.
According to local media Manorama, the former state home minister was carrying the grenade to demonstrate the alleged 'police raj' in the state.
Alleging that the police was launching 'expired' grenades, such as the one in his possession, at Youth Congress workers in Thiruvananthapuram, Radhakrishnan said that the cops were curbing people's right to protest in the most inhumane manner possible.
Manorama reported that the Congress MLA made the statement during a discussion on the state's home department. Putting his point forth in the assembly, Radhakrishnan reportedly took the grenade out of the cover, and stated that using 'expired' grenades could have severe consequences.
Deccan Chronicle reported that Radhakrishnan later submitted the grenades to the Speaker of the House.
