Former Indian Army Chief General JJ Singh on Wednesday, 6 February, joined the SAD (Taksali), a party of expelled leaders of the Akali Dal in Amritsar, reported IANS.

The former Arunachal Pradesh governor had resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) last month citing personal reasons.

Singh had joined the Shiromani Akali Dal ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections in 2017, unsuccessfully contesting against Congress leader and now Chief Minister Amarinder Singh from Patiala, the report said.

On Tuesday, 5 February, former Deputy Speaker of the state Assembly, Bir Devinder Singh, also joined the SAD (Taksali).

SAD (Taksali) was launched by expelled leaders of SAD, led by Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, sitting Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib, in December 2018.

SAD is headed by Sukhbir Singh Badal, son of five-time Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, the report said.
