Stalin Says TN Governor Has Promised to Act on Floor Test Demand

MK Stalin met Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao on Sunday to stress the need for a strong front in the Assembly. Congress MLAs were also part of the delegation of opposition parties in Tamil Nadu led by Stalin.

The DMK leader demanded an immediate floor test from the governor.

We have demanded immediate floor test in Tamil Nadu Assembly. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami needs to prove his majority. Governor has promised to act on this.

Stalin gave a break-up of how many seats each faction hold. Staring with EPS, as Mr Palaniswami is popularly known, Stalin said he has the support 114 legislators in the 238-member assembly. The opposition, along with the rebel AIADMK faction led by the party’s sidelined number 2, TTV Dhinakaran, have 119 legislators, according to him. With the seat of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa yet to be filled in, the halfway mark in the house is at 117, NDTV reported.

He added that if the governor does not respond to the request within a week, then he will “have to take legal resort and mobilise people’s mandate”.
