The BJP, led by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, walked out of the Maharashtra Assembly ahead of floor test in the state.
BJP alleged that the business of the House was conducted in violation of Constitutional norms and that it would take up the issue with Governor BS Koshyari.
According to news agency PTI, the BJP also objected to replacing the party’s Kalidas Kolambkar as the Pro Tem Speaker with NCP’s Dilip Walse Patil, saying that such a thing has never happened previously in the history of India as the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance is scared of losing the floor test under a regular Speaker.
"Summons was required to be issued through Governor to convene a new session. But that was not to be the case," he alleged.
Fadnavis also said that the oath-taking ceremony of Thackeray and his six ministers, was not in line with the rules.
"Someone took Balasaheb Thackeray's name, someone took names of (Congress chief) Sonia (Gandhi) ji and (NCP President Sharad) Pawar saheb's name. The oath has to be taken as mentioned in the pro forma," he said, adding that US President Barrack Obama had committed the same mistake and thus, had to repeat his oath.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government of the Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance won the floor test in the Maharashtra Assembly on Saturday, 30 November.
Altogether, 169 MLAs vote in favour of the motion of confidence, Pro Tem Speaker Dilip Walse Patil informed the House.
