"We will not stop at this protest and the protests to come will only be bigger," asserted AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, at an anti-CAA event in Hyderabad on Saturday, 25 January.

Speaking to The Quint, he also condemned one Sharjeel Imam's controversial statement wherein he can be heard suggesting that Assam should be cut off from the rest of India.

Owaisi, along with several religious scholars addressed a protest-cum-poetry event in Hyderabad on Saturday.

He also said that abiding by an order of the Telangana High Court, the tricolour will not be unfurled at the event and it will be concluded by 9:15 pm, according to a The News Minute report.

"The court has ordered that the event should begin at 6 pm and conclude at 9 pm. The court denied permission to unfurl the flag. The court is supreme but not infallible. But since this is the decision of the court, we will obey it," The News Minute article quoted him as saying.

The program will involve ‘protest, poetry and a celebration of democracy’ in a bid to protest against CAA, NRC and NPR, a digital pamphlet of the event said.

Owaisi’s War of Words With Shah

On Tuesday, at a rally in Karimnagar district, Owaisi had taken on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asking him to debate with him on the contentious legislation.

This was in response to Shah's open challenge to Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati for a debate on CAA, NRC and NPR.

“I am here... debate with me. Why (debate) with these people... Dadhi wale se karo na (Debate with a bearded man). We will talk and debate on CAA, NPR and NRC.”
