Bengaluru House Set on Fire by Unidentified Man, 6-Yr-Old Dies
In a horrific incident, a house was bolted from the outside, sprinkled with kerosene and set on fire, even as the family was trapped inside. A 6-year-old child succumbed to burn injuries, but other members of the family survived, after neighbours, hearing their screams for help, rescued them.

At Least Six Killed in Methane Gas Tank Blast in Bijnor

Agusta Westland: Former Air Force Chief SP Tyagi and Brothers Granted Bail
ANI reported that bail was granted by Delhi's Patiala House Court to former Air Force Chief SP Tyagi and his brothers in the Agusta Westland case filed by the Enforcement Directorate. Other accused Carlo Gerosa and GR Heshke did not appear for the hearing and were not granted bail by the Delhi court, ANI reported.

Chinese Troops Crossed Over LAC Thrice in August: Sources
China's People Liberation Army (PLA) transgressed the Line of Actual Control (LAC) at least three times last month in the Uttarakhand state, according to sources quoted by news agency ANI.
The report further said that the Chinese troops crossed over as far as four kilometres into the Indian territory in Barahoti village in the Chamoli district of the state.
Similar incidents have occurred in July last year when Chinese troops ventured up to a kilometre into the Indian territory in Barahoti. This area also witnessed aerial transgressions and infiltration by foot patrols in 2013 and 2014.

Undemocratic to Cancel Students' Union Polls: Samajwadi Party
As the students’ union polls in Deen Dayal Upadhyay University, Gorakhpur, were postponed by the UP government, the Samajwadi Party on Wednesday, 12 September termed the postponement "undemocratic", PTI reported.
SP party representative told PTI that the ruling BJP was afraid of facing another defeat after losing the Lok Sabha by-election in the city.
The election was set to be held on 13 September, but had to be postponed after two groups clashed on the campus of the state-run university during campaigning 11 September. Fresh dates for the polls are yet to be announced.

Air India security staff on Monday, 10 September recovered live bullets from a Bangladeshi national at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, ANI reported.

Kerala Police has summoned rape accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal, asking him to appear on 19 September, ANI reported.
Speaking to ANI, Inspector-general of police Vijay Sakre said that there are a lot contradictions in the case.
“This is an old case based primarily on oral evidence. We have verified a lot of contradictions. It's our duty to protect the victim and witnesses”, Sakre added.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Centre again to confer the country's highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna on late J Jayalalithaa and Dravidian icon C N Annadurai, PTI reported.
Palaniswami said in the letter to Modi, recalling Jayalalithaa's welfare measures and initiatives.
The chief minister drew Modi's attention to a letter of December 18, 2016 of the state government recommending the award to the former chief minister posthumously.

Belonging of a Dutch WikiLeaks associate who went missing in Norway on 20 August, have been found in Norway, Norwegian police told AFP.
According to the reports, a fisherman found the objects floating in the water on 11 August, police said in a statement, confirming the items "belong to the missing person" but providing no details about them due to the ongoing investigation.

India’s retail inflation decelerated to a 10 month low from 4.17% to 3.69% for the month of August, ANI reported.

IIT Guwahati Student Kills Self Inside Campus Hostel
A female student hailing from Karnataka killed self on Wednesday in the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IIT-G) campus, IANS reported.
The girl was studying mechanical engineering student and joined the IIT in July.
"When her roommate returned to the hostel, she found the room door locked from inside. As there was no response to repeated door knocks, campus security called police who forced open the door. She was found hanging from a ceiling fan”, police said in the report.

Ex-IAF Chief Tyagi, Cousins Granted Bail in Agusta Chopper Scam Case
Former Air Force Chief S P Tyagi and his three cousins were granted bail by a Delhi court in a money laundering case related to the Agusta Westland VVIP chopper scam.
Special judge Arvind Kumar granted relief to Tyagi's cousin, Sanjeev Tyagi alias Julie, Rajeev Tyagi alias Doesa and Sandeep Tyagi alias Kuki on personal bonds of Rs 1 lakh each with one surety of the like amount.
Parrikar May Dissolve Goa Assembly, Cong Writes to Governor
Opposition Congress in Goa wrote to Governor, expressing fear that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar may dissolve the Assembly as he is "losing grip" over allies and facing intra-party politics.
In a letter to governor Mridula Sinha, Goa Congress chief Girish Chodankar said in such a scenario, the Congress should get a chance to form the government, and the Assembly should not be dissolved before its term is over.
Chodankar also claimed that Parrikar -- who returned from the US last week after medical treatment -- has not resumed office yet. The state BJP refuted his claims.

NGT Directs Closure of 5 UP Tanneries for Polluting Ganga River
The National Green Tribunal has directed the closure of five Kanpur-based tanneries for discharging effluents in river Ganga after the Central Pollution Control Board informed it that the units lacked NOC from the Central Ground Water Authority.
The tribunal ordered closure of Minaar Industries, Kazi Leather (Huda Hide Agency), N R Tanners, Nusrat Tannery Pvt Ltd and New Universal Tannery.
A bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel passed the order after perusing a joint inspection team of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the state pollution control board.

Over 300 Illegal Pandals in Mumbai, HC Seeks Action Report
The Bombay High Court directed the Maharashtra government and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to detail the steps taken against unauthorised pandals across the state ahead of the Ganesh festival.
The directions came after the court was informed by the government that recent inspection by various municipal corporations across Maharashtra revealed that several pandals have been constructed in violation of civic rules and noise pollution norms.
In Mumbai alone, over 300 illegal pandals have come up ahead of the 10-day festival which starts Thursday, the government said.

Clash Between Police & Maoists Erupts in Chattisgarh
An encounter between police and Maoists forces took place in Chattisgarh’s Narayanpur District on Wednesday, ANI reported. The attack took place when a team of Special Task Force and District Reserve Guard were returning from a search operation.
The officials said that they have recovered an unidentified male body and a 315 bore rifle.

An employee of a forest department in Jhajjar Kotli, Jammu and Kashmir was attacked by terrorists, police told ANI.
"Three terrorists fired from a parked truck and ran", Dr S D Singh, Inspector General of Police, Jammu told ANI.
"We have arrested two accomplices of the terrorists. We have issued an advisory for people to stay indoors," Singh added.
