TN Youth Arrested for Posting Obscene Photos From Thanjavur Temple

The youth posted photos of himself touching, hugging and kissing sculptures at the temple.

The Tamil Nadu Police on Sunday, 9 June, arrested a 28-year-old youth for allegedly posting obscene photos he had clicked at the at the Brihadeeshwara Temple in Thanjavur, also known as the Big Temple.

According to the The New Indian Express, K Mujibur Rahman, posted photos of himself touching, hugging and kissing sculptures at the temple. He was reportedly arrested after M Rathinavel, lodged a complaint on Saturday.

“Rahman hails from Othakkadai area of Madurai. Currently, he is residing and working as a food delivery boy in Trichy. As he wanted to celebrate; he went to the nearby ancient town of Thanjavur Wednesday. There, he visited King Raja Raja Chola built Brahideeswara Temple – better known as ‘the big temple’. In the temple, he took the controversial pictures with the women sculptures,” said the police to Hindustan Times.

The youth has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 295 (injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class) and Section 295 (A) (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).

He will be produced before a magistrate on 10 June.
