A 20-year-old woman was burnt alive in Jodhpur’s Pipda village on Sunday for allegedly protesting the cutting of trees.

The deceased, identified as Lalita, had objected to the felling of trees in her farm. A group of men attacked her and set her ablaze after pouring petrol on her. The sarpanch of the village, Ranveer Singh, is reported to be among the perpetrators.

“The sarpanch and other people poured petrol on her and burnt her alive. The body is in the mortuary. We will arrest the accused soon, after a fair investigation,” police officer Suresh Chaudhary told ANI.

The girl’s body has been taken to Jodhpur’s MJH hospital. The incident has sparked a row, with villagers demanding the arrest of the attackers within 24 hours, Amarujala reported.
