A rape survivor from Sonipat alleged that the police were not arresting the accused, as he is the father of a Haryana police inspector.

The victim reportedly moved the Haryana State Human Rights Commission on Friday, 20 September, which later directed the Superintendent of Police of Sonipat to submit a detailed report by 27 November, India Today reported.

According to the victim’s complaint to the Commission Chairman, Justice SK Mittal, the accused, named Karan Singh, is the father of a Haryana Police cop and due to the latter’s influence, the Sonipat Women Police Station SHO has not launched investigations or arrested the accused, the report adds.

The victim reportedly alleged that the accused had raped her when he had come to her house on the pretence of inviting her for a wedding.

Following the incident, he had allegedly threatened her, reported India Today, saying that his son was an inspector and that if she raised the alarm, he would ensure that her children’s futures were affected.

The victim claimed that the accused had raped her four times, following which she finally lodged a compliant with the women’s police station, the report adds.

She also claimed that the the wife of the accused and other family members had threatened and abused her.
