Sangeeta Mall, the wife of a jawan who was killed in action in Jammu and Kashmir while fighting terrorists, was commissioned into the Indian Army after passing out from the Officers Training Academy in Chennai on Saturday, 9 March, reported The Times of India.

Mall, a teacher, married her husband Shishir Mall, who was a rifleman in the Gorkha Rifles in 2013.

According to the report, Shishir was serving in J&K’s Baramulla sector when he was killed in September 2015. After his death, Sangeeta quit her job to be by her mother-in-law’s side.

Her brother-in-law Sushant told TOI that his mother had encouraged Sangeeta to study further and take up a job.

Sangeeta was motivated to join the Army in 2016 after she attended an investiture ceremony in Ranikhet, where her husband was awarded the Sena Medal posthumously, reported The Times of India.

Sushant said that she worked hard and cleared the OTA examination, and has now been commissioned into the Army as a Lieutenant in the short service commission.
