The prices of essential vegetables like onions and tomatoes have almost doubled and other green vegetables like capsicums, bitter gourd and ladyfingers are racing to beat them. Peas are sold at Rs 60 -70 per kg, and carrots are sold at Rs 10-20 more.

Blaming the situation on crop failure due to weather conditions in the source states, vendors are speculating that the surge will continue for the coming 10-15 days.
