In yet another case of caste atrocity, two men have alleged that they were beaten up by over 25 people for overtaking their motorcycles near a petrol pump. The incident occurred in Savargaon village in the Beed district of Maharashtra on Friday.

Six young men who were travelling on three motorcycles overtook a group of people. The men then were stopped by the accused and beaten up. The dalit men claimed that the beating worsened when the accused saw pictures of Dr BR Ambedkar on their motorcycles.

“After spotting the photograph, they beat me with a belt. They started beating us and wanted to kill us. They took me on their bike and kept threatening us and abusing our caste,” said 23-year-old Akash Waghmare, one of the victims, to NDTV.

Police have lodged a complaint against over 25 unidentified persons under Prevention of SC/ST Atrocity Act, but no arrests have yet been made.

This incident happened amid nationwide fury over the beating and shaming of four dalit men for skinning a dead cow in Una, Gujarat on 11 July.

Another incident occurred in Bihar, where two dalit boys were allegedly beaten and urinated on for trying to steal a motorcycle.
