Three Killed in a Shootout over Land Dispute in UP

Violence broke out at Sarora village due to a dispute over a piece of land both sides claimed belonged to them.

Three people were killed and a dozen injured in a shootout between two groups over a land dispute in Deoria in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, 14 October, following which angry locals blocked a highway, police said.

The deceased were identified as Satya Prakash, 19, Ram Pradesh, 25, and Inderjeet, 22.

The injured were admitted to a district hospital, where the condition of Baijnath, 40, and Vijay, 50, is said to be critical.

Violence broke out at Sarora village due to a dispute over the construction of a petrol pump on a piece of land both sides claimed belonged to them.

Tension prevailed in the area, following which heavy police deployment was made.
