A 25-year-old woman was allegedly hacked to death by her jilted lover in a Tamil Nadu church on Wednesday, police said. They added that the man, who is believed to have stalked her for several months, hanged himself to death thereafter.

The woman, identified as Francina, had previously rejected the proposal made by 26-year-old J Keegan, and was to get married to another man next month. Enraged over this, he attacked her while she was offering morning prayers at the church.

According to an eyewitness, Keegan entered the church carrying an aruval, a common agricultural implement similar to a machete, reported the Hindustan Times.

Francina was rushed to a hospital where she died without responding to treatment, police said.

The incident is the third instance of a brutal murder at the hands of a jilted lover in the state in the last three months.

On Tuesday, an engineering student was clubbed to death in a private college in Karur district by her senior on similar grounds.

Before this, Infosys techie Swathi was hacked to death by a young man at a railway station in Chennai on 24 July in full public view for the same reason.
