SC Slams UP Govt for Asking Homeless for Aadhaar at Night Shelters

The SC pulled up the government, asking how the homeless are supposed to get Aadhaar cards made without an address.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday, 10 January, pulled up the Uttar Pradesh government for asking people to provide their Aadhaar cards for to stay at government night shelters.

The apex court asked the chief secretary of the state whether homeless people who did not possess Aadhaar cards did not exist for the Government of India, reported Bar and Bench.

The court also pulled up the government and asked how the homeless people would get Aadhaar cards made if they do not have a proper address.

The Assistant Solicitor General reportedly suggested the use of alternative identification cards as proof, but he reportedly said that he didn’t have proper instructions and doesn't represent UIDAI.
