A policeman was killed and three security personnel were injured during an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) Srinagar on Sunday, 12 August.

The security forces recovered incriminating material from the encounter site, located in Batmaloo, and arrested two accomplices of the militants, reported The Indian Express.

J&K Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid took toTwitter and wrote:

A police official said security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Diyarwani in Batamaloo area of the city early on 12 August, following a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area.

While the searches in the area were going on, terrorists hiding in a house – which had a proper hideout for them – fired indiscriminately on the security forces. In the initial burst of fire, three jawans sustained injuries and were evacuated to the hospital for medical attention. However one of them, identified as Parvaiz, succumbed to his injuries.
