J&K Special Police Officer (SPO), Adil Bashir, who fled with several rifles on Friday, 28 September, from the residence of a PDP MLA in Srinagar, has joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, reported IANS.

Pictures of the SPO posing with an AK-47 rifle alongside Hizbul commander Zeenat-ul-Islam went viral on social media on Monday.

He was posted at the MLA Aijaz Mir residence at Jawahar Nagar before he fled with seven AK-47 rifles and a pistol. The MLA was in Jammu when the incident occurred.

According to IANS, the police claims to have identified the civilian with whose help Bashir managed to flee.

At least 10 of the legislator’s personal security guards have been detained for questioning by the police.

The SPO had decamped with the service weapons of his colleagues.

“The SPO has decamped with seven AK-47 rifles and a pistol belonging to other guards posted at the MLA’s residence.”

Police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh on information leading to his arrest.
