According to sources close to the project, this Thackeray biopic will now have two parts - the first part which is being directed by Abhijit Panse will deal with the events in the Shiv Sena leader’s life from him childhood till 1995, when the Sena first formed the government in Maharashtra in a coalition with the BJP. A second part of the Bal Thackeray biopic is now in the pipeline and Sena MP Sanjay Raut is reportedly in talks with filmmaker Shoojit Sircar to helm the project.

The sequel to Thackeray’s biopic will cover the Shiv Sena’s leader’s life from 1995 till his death in 2012. While Nawazuddin Siddiqui will continue to play the role of the Shiv Sena founder, the search for suitable actors to play Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray is still on.
