Scuffle Leads to Protest Against Dalit Atrocity Act in Pune
As the Lohegaon area remains tense, the police has increased its presence to avoid further violence.
A scuffle between Dalit and Maratha youths left a few injured and houses damaged in a slum area in Pune’s Lohegaon locality on Thursday.
After the scuffle, the Marathas marched towards Lohegaon police station, demanding that the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act be repealed.
While the situation is under control, the police has increased its presence in the slum area as tension prevails.
The incident occurred even as Nashik entered day 5 of a shutdown after a protest by Marathas turned violent. Schools in Nashik were closed down and internet services blocked after the incident.
